Welcome to the home of Sterling TRD
First question I get in most of my emails from those who are "researching the breed" is this one question...
"Where do you live?"
Okay that is an easy one.. Chiang Mai, Thailand .. but they never seem to say where they live!
I ship my TRD mainly to LAX in Los Angeles, California the USA by Thai Air Cargo for a easy pick up by my new TRD buyers.
If you are somewhere else, I need to know where you are before I can ask my broker to figure out a cost of shipping a TRD to an airport nearest you. If you live in Europe a blood test for the rabies vaccine must be done in your country by a vet that is approved in your country after the 3rd month and after the blood test is approved there will be another 90 day wait until that TRD can be shipped to any of those EU countries. There are no quarantines or restrictions entering the USA. Only a 4 month wait to the island state of Hawaii.
The House of Sakorn-Sterling TRD is located in a garden setting in the rice fields of Hang Dong about 15 kilometers southwest of the 700 year old city of Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand.
NO!! I don't live in San Francisco or the Los Angeles areas or anywhere in the USA.. I did a early retirement to Thailand at the age of 56 in 2003... and I love it!! The food is great and the weather is fantastic..
This garden retreat was once the home of a very dear friend of mine Khun Dum and her husband. They moved out to create a new resort in another part of Thailand. I moved to this new kennel on August 15th 2009 and turned it into a really fabulous home of outdoor living for me and all my TRD.
This place is only half the size of our last home in the Night Safari area, so I have decided to sell off and give away many of my TRD... that is I want to sell all my current puppies, juniors, and even some of my top quality breeding stock. Many of the older retired females will be given away as well for free. If you want a TRD this is the time we can help each other....
What's available now... August 20, 2010
I'm now down to just 12 pups to sell or find new homes for...
9 male pups... 1 RED, 1 BLUE, 1 SABLE, 1 CHOCOLATE, 5 BLACK
3 female pups... 1 BLUE, 1 FAWN, 1 BLACK
Call me in
SKYPE and I will accept all reasonable offers... You must pay for a cage (Depending on size at $150-$250) and the shipping to LAX from Chiang Mai (Depending on the volume size of which cage from $650 to $850)..Other points we need to figure on that date and to where in the world you are living. Over 30 TRD have now been sold or given away for free to local expats...
I need to get these last few pups out of here real soon. A new batch of TRD pups will be coming in the next 2 months. Then 4 months after that I am able to ship them. Figure, I will be able to send you a new 4 month old TRD puppy by the end of December or early January.

These are tough, active, jungle-like dogs that are very fierce in nature and can be difficult to reckon with as new novice dog owner... These dogs are not for everyone. If you are to be a first time dog owner, I would strongly suggest you to forget about this breed until you are a wee bit more experienced in dogs and what they can do... Remember this is 12-14 years of your life too!
Come and join me for a "real ride" in your life... the Thai Ridgeback Dog
Remember the TRD is NOT a breed for everyone...

Jack,
I am writing to tell you that I lost one of my best friends last week to a terrible accident. Raiden, he was the best dog I have ever owned. I really miss him and still love him a great deal and always will. He will remain in my heart and many others, forever.
Not only was Raiden an amazing dog, but he was a best friend to me and all my family members. I was fortunate to do some traveling for work, which allowed my family members take care of him while I was away. They all loved him unconditionally and received the same from him.
Raiden was obedient, handsome, a ladies man (to humans and dogs), loyal, ( except sometimes at the beach) He always wanted to be with the pack. If he knew we were leaving,he would want to go where we were going. He loved rides in the back of the truck and smell all the good out door smells. He just loved being around me ad my family and friends.
Raiden loved the beach although he hated water, never could figure that one out. One of Raiden's favorite things to do was to run as fast as he could in the sand. What an amazing rooster tail of sand, he would kick up. He was also fond of running in huge circles in the grass in wide open fields. He always tried to get dogs to chase him, but very few were able to keep up with him.
Raiden was very special, he touched the hearts of everyone (except Bob, who watched him twice while I was out of town, and Raiden ran away from him trying to find me, now that's loyalty.) Raiden brought happiness to perfect strangers who were interested in him and just wanted to pet him. From elderly couples, to little children, (and the rare group of Japanese tourists) He was a huge lover of children. It amazed me as to how many of my friends children that were afraid of dogs, were introduced to Raiden and I explained to them about dogs and how to act around them and treat them. Within an hour the children were in love with Raiden, they were petting and playing with him as if he were their best friends. He just had that sweet loving spark about him.
Yes he also had his protective side. If anyone knocked at my door Raiden would bark, and that was the only time he would bark.
Although Raiden's life was shortly lived on this earth, he probably got to see more then most people. How many dogs got to travel from Thailand to San Diego, then to the Cascade range of the rocky mountains just outside of Calgary, Ab Canada. Also taking a road trip up and down the California coast, and another road trip along the whole west coast from San Diego to Vancouver B.C. Canada. Even some beaches that didn't allow dogs ( found that out by the beach patrol after the fact) How many TRDs have been able to go snowshoeing in the mountain ranges outside of Vancouver? This one did! Raiden even went to Whistler during the winter Olympics! I didn't even get to do that!
Raidens remains are now buried on sacred land just outside of Vancouver B.C. He was given a burial service like no other, by a North American Shaman. He will remain in all of the hearts he touched, so his spirit will live on. I know no other dog will ever replace Raiden.
Attached are some photos of Raiden, I hope I was able to provide him with a good life while he was here with me. Thanks for giving me such a wonderful dog.

Here is an email I got on August 9th 2010
Hi Jack,
I will be happy to add a new testimonial after our 8th year with the TRD you sold us.
We came to know "Misha" by an unfortunate accident with our first TRD, Suay. Suay (means beautiful in Thai) was kenneled for a weekend and just a couple of hours before we were due to pick her up she was found strangled to death by virtue of the owner of that boarding kennel leaving her choke chain on her in her run. Suay was attempting to free herself from the confines of her kennel and she had jumped, caught her choker on the chain link fence of her pen. even though this was eight years ago, it saddens me even now as I write this.
My wife and I were so distraught over this lose and we thought having another TRD in our life would help the healing process. We contacted Jack Sterling to see if he had any pups available, and if I remember correctly, Misha was the only pup he had that was ready for a home. Well, Misha immediately slept with me every night, and she and I bonded stronger than any bond I have had with a dog and stronger than some of the humans I consider my friends!
When Misha was about 2 years of age, my worse nightmare began. She, like most TRD, was incredibly spirited. I was working with her on "off leash" training one morning and she became distracted by a rabbit. When the rabbit noticed Misha, it took off for the hills and Misha followed it in a very hot pursuit. It was morning, so, I was still in my robe, I ran back into the house, dressed quickly and gave my own hot pursuit. The chase was on... Unfortunately, in that short period of time it took to change, Misha was long gone and I could not find her at all. I was in total shock and disbelief that I lost my dog. I did not work for three days scouring the area for her, we checked the pounds daily, passed flyer's, talked to the postman if he had seen her, and drove the neighborhood for hours each day, no sign of Misha anywhere. We both were so sick with grief.
My biggest concern was that Misha would not approach someone she did not know, more than likely even if she needed help. Each night, I would put her blanket and food bowl outside by the front door, thinking she might be able to sniff her way home. So that I did not miss her if she did come to the door, I slept on the tile by the front door with blanket and pillow each night while she was missing. After one week of this, my wife told me to come back to our bedroom. That I need to let her go and move on to the acceptance phase of my grieving, but I decided to give it one more night. On the 8th night, at about 4am in the morning, I heard a faint scratching at the door. I thought to myself..this can't be... but just maybe it was her. So, I opened the front door and there she was..it was Misha..!! She looked about 15 lbs underweight and must have had a hundred ticks in her, but there she was. My Misha.. my babygirl.. Oh God I was happy.. you cannot imagine how happy I was to see her.
The funniest part of this true story is Misha is a howler. When she came in the door, I hugged her and was sorta hysterically repeating Misha your home, Misha, Misha, Misha. I was doing the howling, then Misha started to do her howling and it was quite the scene at 4am. My wife, who was asleep in our bedroom, thought I was dreaming while sleeping on the floor by the front door and was crying out her name in my sleep. It was so hilarious.
Misha to this day will not stray more than 20 to 30 yards away from me. She seems to remember and knows now not to do that again She is nearly 8 years old now and a very mature young lady, yet, when I walk in the door she immediately turns into that little precocious 2 year old. I cant imagine having any other breed of dog other than one of Jack Sterling's TRD. We look forward to adding another Sterling pup to the family, I think it will be good for Misha as well.
I think we want another female, at least the quality of Misha. My wife really wants a fawn, but ultimately color is not important as much a classic TRD disposition and appointments. I am going to primarily this pup will be for my 8 year old daughter, at least I am going to try to help her as much as I can in bonding with a pup. Ultimately who the pup bonds with will be our pups decision. The only preference that we truly have is for the short coat. Can you narrow it down from there. Your judgment has always been spot on.
As a footnote, the owner of the kennel felt terrible about what happened and shared in our tears. He also did what he could to make it right. He paid for Misha.
kindest regards,
your true TRD friend
Beau and Michelle
